Francesco is a prophetic name. Mother Giuseppa, like the biblical Elizabeth,was informed because of her maternal privilege.

From 9 p.m. every 3 hours the changing of the guard,for the night vigil, took place according to the roman tradition. Little Francesco was born at about 9p.m..It’s the Virgin Mary’s month ,always so dear to Padre Pio. Mamma Giuseppa decides date and time for the baptism that will be administered in the Church of St.Mary of the Angels. Everybody has a good time but maybe only the new born sees the angels singing around him. The children are waiting outside the church to taste the good sugared almonds that their relatives throw in the air in sign of great joy.

Il nome Francesco è profetico. Mamma Giuseppa, come la biblica Elisabetta, è stata avvertita per privilegio materno.

A partire dalle ventuno, ogni tre ore c’era il cambio della sentinella nella prassi dei romani per la veglia notturna. Il piccolo Francesco è nato quasi alle ventuno. E’ il mese della Madonna, sempre tanto caro a Padre Pio. Mamma Giuseppa decide giorno e ora del battesimo, che sarà amministrato nella Chiesa di S. Maria degli Angeli. Tutti fanno grande festa, ma forse solo il neonato vede gli Angeli che cantano intorno a lui. I Bambini aspettano fuori la chiesa per gustare i buoni confetti che i parenti gettano all’aria in segno di festa.

Nuovo Sole

La sentinella antica s’apprestava

a far la prima delle quattro veglie,

che avevan solo termine al mattino.

Fu quella l’ora scelta dal Signore

per presentare al mondo un nuovo sole.

Padre Pio sente di essere un peccatore salvato dalla misericordia divina e chiede

a Dio di chiamare a pentimento e quindi perdonare a tutti i peccatori, come ha

fatto con lui.    Dovrei gridare: ” Signore, allontanami da me, perché sono un

peccatore “. (Lc 5,8)  E se Tu mi ascoltassi, che ne sarebbe di me?  Invece

Tu vieni a me, mi perdoni e mi abbracci.  Io colgo questo attimo eterno

per chiederti di abbracciare così tutti i peccatori. E’ la vittoria dell’amore. (P.Guglielmo Alimonti)

Gesù è di tutti, ma lo è a più ragione per i peccatori. Egli stesso ce lo dice: Non sono venuto per i giusti ma per i peccatori(Mt 9,13;Mc 2,17); non sono i sani che abbisognano del medico, ma gl’infermi(Mc 2,17;Lc 5,31); il Figliuol dell’uomo è venuto per salvare ciò che era perduto(Mt 18,11; Lc 24,32); in cielo si farà più festa per la conversione di un peccatore, che per la perseveranza di novantanove giusti( Lc 15,4). Father Pio asked me: ” Where are you from? ” I wondered whether Father Pio could locate my birthplace just saying simply its name. I answered: ”I am from Pescara ”. Father Pio didn’t say anything but  thought of my answer and whispered it; maybe he wasn’t satisfied but I didn’t add anything else. I wasn’t so fine, he came near me and started speaking  with an accurate accent typical of my town. Everything was clear: not only he knew about my town but even its dialect indeed. I couldn’t ask him anything. Moreover I didn’t expect any answer that you can easily guess. Just this one is the reason of my witness.

THE LESSON

The Father asked me:

“ Where are you from? ”

I should  only say:

I am from Guardiagrele.

But is it clear enough?
